How do we break through the barriers to a circular construction sector?

Marloes van Heteren spoke on behalf of Studio Solarix on Monday 1 February at the digital event of the National Conference on Circular Economy of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, alongside speakers such as Mark Rutte and Ingrid Van Engelshoven.

As one of the successful scale-ups from the Circular@Scale program, we shared our successes and challenges in making the circular economy the new normal. Watch and listen to Marloes’ story about how awareness about climate change and challenges with energy generation via roofs led to the creation of Studio Solarix.

Marloes tells how, together with business partner Reinier Bosch, she discovered a gap in the market, or “lack of the wall”, when they saw that all facades could be potential energy sources, there was nothing for it yet. No one wants solar panels that are dull black and available in one size and are not attractive to project developers and architects. In order to accelerate the energy transition, she jointly strived to develop solar panels that look good, with optimal color perception and optimal energy yields. Circularity is also central to the entire process.

For example, Studio Solarix successfully developed Solar Design facades that make an impact in the field of sustainability and circularity. The prototype has already won a Dutch Design Award and today the Solar Design facades from Studio Solarix can be found on the innovative Pharos project of Cairns Real Estate, among others.
